The government of Cape Verde Tuesday signed an agreement for joint development of a renewable energy project, with Infraco, a multinational company headquartered in London, and power and water company Electra. The agreement will make it possible to set up four wind farms on the islands of Santiago, São Vicente, Sal and Boa Vista over the next year, which, according to the Minister for the Economy, Growth and Competition, “will contribute to a penetration rate of wind power of approximately 18 percent.” With this project the Cape Verdean government plans to make use of renewable energy sources, reduce the cost of electricity production and minimize impact on the environment, according to the director-general for energy, Abraão Lopes.
