28/08/07 - TAP to carry out four weekly direct flights to Praia beginning in October PDF Print E-mail

ImageTAP Air Portugal has announced the introduction of four direct weekly flights between Portuguese capital Lisbon and Cape Verdean capital Praia beginning on October 28.

The flights will leave Lisbon Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 9:50 pm.

In declarations to Portuguese news agency Lusa, an official at the Portuguese airline said that “this new destination will reinforce our links to Cape Verde, as the daily flights to the island of Sal will be maintained, representing a total weekly supply of 11 flights between Portugal and Cape Verde.”

TACV Cabo Verde Airlines already carries out direct flights between the two countries’ capital cities.

Praia will be the eighth destination of the TAP network in Africa, joining Sal, Bissau, Dakar, Johannesburg, Luanda, Maputo and São Tomé, bringing the total number of weekly links between Portugal and the African continent carried out by the airline to 35.

During the first seven months of this year, TAP transported a total of 236,000 passengers on its African links, an increase of 15.3% over the same period last year.

According to a source at TAP, “air links between Portugal and most African countries - Cape Verde is an exception - is strongly conditioned by bilateral accords between countries, and require specific authorizations from the respective international aeronautics authorities.”
