The Court of Accounts and the Department of Planning are the exclusive beneficiaries of two US$ 500,000 funds the World Bank has made available to Cape Verde. The donation was approved last week by the international financial institutions administrative council. Two new accords will be signed between the Cape Verdean government and the World Bank, most likely next week, through which the international financial institution will grant US$ 500,000 each to the Court of Accounts and to the Ministry of Finances and Plannings Department of Planning.
The funds will be used beginning in 2007 over the course of a period of no longer than two years, and are aimed at helping deal with the fact that the admission of new employees in Cape Verde’s Public Administration is currently on hold in accordance with World Bank expenditure orientations. At present, a number of professionals have been chosen to speed up the review of the State Accounts sent to the Court of Accounts by the National Assembly. The Planning Department, meanwhile, will be able with the funds to move forward with the elaboration of the 2008-2011 Growth Strategy and Poverty Reduction document.
