 Cape Verdeans are very passionate about thier football and the national Cape Verde team has finished 2006 among the 100 best-ranked men’s soccer selections for the first time ever, maintaining 78th position in the FIFA ranking announced yesterday, December 21.
The Cape Verdean national soccer team will ring in 2007 two spots ahead of Algeria, its next adversary in the Group 2 qualifications for the 2008 African Cup of Nations. The game will take place on March 24 in Algiers. In October, Cape Verde’s national team experienced its most significant one-month increase ever in the FIFA ranking, leaping 30 spots, mainly as a result of its 1-0 win against the Republic of Guinea in its most recent match.
