Cape Verde’s first “expressway,” a four-lane road with a central separator, will open to traffic on Saturday, November 24. Prime Minister José Maria Neves will preside over the official unveiling of the Praia traffic ring, considered one of the largest infrastructure enterprises ever undertaken in Cape Verde.

According to news agency Inforpress, Portuguese Finance Minister Fernando Teixeira dos Santos will be one of the guests at the ceremony. The construction of the traffic ring was financed by the governments of Portugal and Cape Verde.

The Praia traffic ring has a total extension of 17 kilometers and four 3.25-meter-wide lanes, with a 1.5-meter-wide central separator, 1.5-meter-wide sidewalks and 0.5-meter curbs. The project cost a total of approximately 3 billion escudos.

Beginning Saturday, the expressway will open to traffic and will connect Praia International Airport and Jean Piaget University.
