The inflation rate for the 12 months preceding July stood at 3.9%, thus surpassing the government’s projection for 2006, 3.5%. According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), the consumer price index hit 196.9 in July, a figure higher than that registered the previous month.
The monthly variation rate stood at 0% on a nationwide level, hitting 0.4% in São Vicente, 0% in the country’s rural zones and -0.1% in Praia, according to the INE. The variation in comparison to the same month last year hit 5.8% on a national level (7.1% in Praia, 5.6% in rural zones and 4.9% in São Vicente). The inflation rate for past twelve months stood at 3.9% on a nationwide level, registering 4.5% in Praia, 4% in rural zones and 2.2% in São Vicente. The government’s forecast for overall inflation for 2006 is 3.5%. The INE bulletin does not specify what products contributed most to this increase in the inflation rate, although it is certain that fuel costs were a major factor. |
