13/11/06 - ASA takes out loan with Deutsche Bank for modernization of Sal airport PDF Print E-mail
ImageCape Verde’s Airport and Air Security Company (ASA) will take out a 268 million-escudo loan with Deutsche Bank to finance the modernization of Sal’s Amílcar Cabral International Airport in order to make the facility safer and more competitive.

The government has authorized the Treasury Department to approve the operation, according to Minister of Education Filomena Martins, who served as the spokesperson for the Council of Ministers following last Thursday’s cabinet meeting.

“The loan is aimed at substituting the entire electrical network and improving security at Sal’s airport,” explained the government minister, adding that the project comes as a part of the efforts being made to modernize all of the country’s airport facilities, according to the government’s strategy of transforming Cape Verde into an international air transportation hub.

Less than one month ago, the Council of Ministers approved ASA’s business plan, which calls for, among other things, major remodeling at Amílcar Cabral International Airport and the expansion of Praia International Airport, with costs estimated at several billion escudos.
