ImageAs of February 2007 Cape Verde is to open its first professional specialized professional training center for the construction sector, a project supported by Brazilian aid, officials have said. The project will have total investment of US$1 million, 90-percent financed by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) and the remainder will be funded by the Cape Verdean government.
The facilities being built in Praia, which is the result of converting the former Institute of Training and Professional Improvement (IFAP), will have a total area of 1,400 square meters, according to information from the country’s Employment Ministry.

The employment minister, Sara Lopes, who at the end of last week visited the development with Brazilian ambassador, Vitor Gobato, wants the training center to train instructors who will then pass on their knowledge to others all over the West African archipelago.

Initially the center will offer training in mechanics, metalworking, soldering, plumbing and electricity.
