11/09/06 - Cape Verde air carrier TACV to invest 46 million euros in renewing fleet PDF Print E-mail
ImageCape Verdean air carrier TACV has said it will invest 46 million euros on buying three new ATR aircraft to renew its domestic and regional fleet.  According to the company the investment sill be 80 percent provided by leasing and the remainder from company funds.
The Cape Verdean Council of Ministers, which met at the end of last week for the first time since the Summer vacation, decided to authorize the operation, which will be coordinated by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

Currently, TACV has three ATR aircraft, but only two are operational, flying routes between Cape Verdean islands and Dakar in Senegal.

Cristina Fontes, Minister of Defense and government spokesperson, said in a press conference that the current fleet, “is no longer in line with civil aviation rules, in terms of navigational equipment,” due to their "advanced age.”

TACV also has two Boeing 757/300 aircraft and provides weekly flights to Lisbon, Madrid, Paris, Rotterdam, Fortaleza, amongst other cities.

Last year TACV posted a loss of US$6.97 million.

The company is currently preparing to be privatized in July 2007.

The ATR aircraft are built by the company of the same name, which is a joint venture between the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS), and Alenia Aeronautica, of Italian group Finmeccanica. (macauhub)
