Tomorrow, Borges will propose the creation of a Joint Commission to deal with immigration issues to his Portuguese colleague, Diogo Freitas do Amaral. With this in mind, Borges met last night with the Federation of Cape Verdean Organizations, headed by Manuel Correia. The three-hour meeting was attended by the business attaché at the Cape Verdean Embassy in Lisbon, Daniel Pereira, as well as other diplomatic employees and Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) representative Tânia Romualdo. Victor Borges asked for the Federation’s cooperation in the elaboration of a list of issues of particular concern to the Cape Verdean community in Portugal, which will be discussed in tomorrow’s meeting with Freitas do Amaral. Borges heard concerns regarding matters such as the Portuguese nationality law, visa legislation and the legalization of residency in the European country. Borges, who during his stay in Lisbon will also meet with the Portuguese capital’s mayor, will sign an accord on Friday establishing a Praia-Lisbon work group aimed at preparing Cape Verde’s special partnership with the European Union. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Praia may also create similar work groups with France, Luxembourg and Spain with the same objective in mind. source a semana |
