09/08/06 - Cape Verde’s inflation drops PDF Print E-mail
ImageInflation in Cape Verde fell in June compared to the previous month, interrupting the rising trend since last December, due to the lower prices for food and beverages, the island country’s National Statistics Institute (INE) indicated.  Year-on-year inflation stood at 7.0 percent in June, 0.4 percent lower than in May, the Institute announced.
The categories contributing to this trend were food and beverages, where the rate fell from 10.0 percent to 8.2 percent, and clothing and footwear, with a negative rate since last year, which in June stood at minus 5.8 percent.

All other categories recorded increases, especially transport and telecommunications, which rose 2.6 percent to 11.1 percent.

“Core” inflation rose 2.8 percent to 3.4 percent, with services accounting for the biggest increase.

The main contribution to the recorded inflation continues to be the energy industrial goods component, which in June stood at 12.6 percent, 1.0 percent more than in May.

The other “non-core” component, non-transformed food goods, also recorded prices 4.8 percent higher, to 5.7 percent, the INE data indicated.
