Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities Victor Borges will begin a two-day official visit to Russia tomorrow. Among the dossiers Borges will be discussing is the possibility and terms of a pardoning of Cape Verde’s debt to the country. Borges will arrive tonight in Moscow and begin his official visit tomorrow morning. According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities, during the visit, which is aimed essentially at re-establishing dialogue between Cape Verde and Russia, the cabinet minister will “hold work meetings with officials in the areas of energy and education.” In addition, according to one diplomatic source, Victor Borges is expected to discuss the terms of the pardoning of Cape Verde’s debt with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Viktorovich Lavrov. After his visit to Russia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will travel to Paris, where he will participate in a UNESCO Executive Council meeting, the last one the UN organization will hold before Cape Verde’s formalizes Cidade Velha’s candidacy as a World Heritage Site.
