04/10/06 - China to fund building of Cape Verde national stadium PDF Print E-mail
ImageThe People’s Republic of China is to finance the construction of a national stadium in Cape Verde, work on which is scheduled to begin in mid 2007, the Chinese ambassador to Cape Verde has said.  Sun Rongmao said Monday in Praia that it was “the next large infrastructure to be financed and built in Cape Verde by the People’s Republic of China.”
The negotiation process between the Cape Verdean and Chinese governments “is moving ahead” although details had yet to be defined, Sun said, adding that the decisions had not been made.

The diplomat said, however, that the decision would be made “soon,” adding that the conclusion of negotiations should take place, “next year.”

“I believe that by mid 2007, or the end of the year, at the latest, we may be able to begin the work,“ Sun said, who said that the project was a further example of the excellent cooperation between Cape Verde and China.

The future National Stadium is expected to be located in Achada de S. Filipe, in the Cape Verdean capital of Praia.

Relations between Cape Verde and China are longstanding and Beijing has funded several projects on the archipelago, such as the National Assembly, the Governmental Palace and the National Auditorium.
