The government of Cape Verde has launched, via its General-Directorate for the Media (DGCS), a public tender to grant new freeview television licenses, for which applications must be received by October, officials said. In a statement published in the Cape Verdean press, the DGCS said that the tender was open to Cape Verdean and foreign operators. The licenses could be granted to general or themed channels, the DGCS added. Currently, Cape Verde has just one licensed freeview channel, which is public television station Televisão de Cabo Verde. A second freeview license was granted to private operator Tiver, which has not yet begun broadcasting, the online version of newspaper A Semana said. Two cable television licenses were granted, one of which to DigitalTV, owned by Chinese company Xiamen Xinuoli, and another to CV Multimédia, of the Cabo Verde Telecom group, but neither of them is broadcasting as yet. Portuguese channel RTP África and France's TV5 are also freely available in Cape Verde. |
