Island Characteristics
Dubbed the "sand dune isle" with long streches of beautiful untouched white sandy beaches and beautiful clear turquoise water Boa Vista holds all the promise for water sports enthusiasts that Sal offers, but with fewer visitors.
Boa Vista is the most Eastern island and it has a surface area of around 620m2, with its longest distance (from North to South) being only 31 km. Given its size and stage of development, hopefully, these beaches (totally 55kms) will remain unspoilt for some years to come despite ongoing development.
![]() Climate Wind blown across from the Sahara impacts the weather on Boa Vista. Capital The main town of Sal Rei features old colonial style buildings, along with a smattering of newer developments and hotels along the main beaches. ![]() Beaches The island has alot of white-sanded beaches. These include Chave beach and Santa Monica. Santa Monica is the largest beach of any of the islands. Tourist Activities Boavista offers excellent conditions for all water sports including sailing, diving, surfing, fishing, sea canoeing and cycling. Hiking is also popular here. How to get there
With direct flights from the UK on the horizon Boa Vista will soon become a much easier island to get to. Currently, you can get a flight from Sal (approx €100 return with TACV or Cape Verde Express) or take a trip on an 8 seater trimaran (€140) which can be booked at Hotel Morabeza in Santa Maria, Sal.
